Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the countdown timer?

The countdown updates every second and is accurate to the exact date and time you enter. It accounts for your local timezone automatically. Make sure to enter the exam date and time as precisely as possible (including AM/PM). The timer continues counting even when you close the browser, showing the correct remaining time when you return.

Can I track multiple exams at the same time?

Yes! You can add unlimited exams. This is perfect for students with multiple finals, students taking both SAT and ACT, or anyone juggling several important test dates. All countdowns are sorted chronologically, so your nearest exam always appears first. Each exam has its own countdown, color coding, and personalized study tips.

Will my countdowns sync across devices?

Countdowns are stored in your browser's localStorage, so each device maintains its own list. To keep exams synced, you can either: (1) Manually add the same exams on each device, or (2) Take a screenshot or note of exam details from one device to recreate on another. We prioritize privacy by not requiring accounts or cloud storage.

How do I share a countdown with friends?

Click the share icon on any exam card. If your device supports native sharing (mobile phones), it will open your share menu for social media, messaging apps, or email. On desktop, it will copy a text message to your clipboard that you can paste anywhere. The shared message includes the exam name and time remaining, plus a link to this tool so friends can create their own countdowns.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

When your exam time arrives, the countdown reaches 00:00:00:00 and the exam moves to the "Completed Exams" section. This keeps your active countdown list clean while maintaining a record of past exams. You can delete completed exams anytime. The exam day motivational message changes to "Exam day is here! You've got this!"

Are the study tips personalized for my exam type?

The study tips are based on time remaining (not exam type), following research-backed test preparation strategies. Tips change based on whether you have 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, or 2+ months remaining. Each time period requires different focus: long-term prep emphasizes foundation building, while last-minute prep focuses on review and self-care. These strategies work for any exam type.

Can I edit an exam countdown after creating it?

Currently, you cannot edit existing countdowns - you'll need to delete and recreate with correct information. We designed it this way to keep the interface simple and fast. Before clicking "Create Countdown," double-check your exam name, date, and time. Pro tip: Use specific exam names like "SAT Math Section 1" rather than just "SAT" if you're tracking individual test sections.

How do I use the downloaded countdown image?

The download feature creates a text file with your countdown formatted nicely. You can: (1) Set it as your phone lock screen or computer desktop wallpaper as daily motivation, (2) Print and post it on your study wall, (3) Share it in study group chats, or (4) Include it in your study schedule documents. The file updates with the current time remaining when downloaded, so re-download weekly for updated versions.

What if I don't see my exam type in the list?

Select "Custom" from the exam type dropdown! This allows you to create countdowns for any exam not in our preset list. Common uses: state-specific exams, professional certifications (CPA, bar exam), language proficiency tests (DELE, JLPT), or any school-specific finals. The countdown works exactly the same way regardless of exam type - the main difference is the color coding for visual organization.

😰 Managing Test Anxiety

Seeing a countdown can increase anxiety for some students. Here's how to use it productively:

✅ Healthy Countdown Use

  • Check once daily to maintain awareness without obsessing
  • Use countdown as motivation to start studying, not source of panic
  • Focus on "days to prepare" rather than "days running out"
  • Follow the study tips - having a plan reduces anxiety
  • Share with study partners for accountability and support

❌ Unhealthy Countdown Use

  • Checking every hour and panicking each time
  • Using countdown as excuse to procrastinate ("still have time")
  • Letting countdown number dictate your stress level
  • Comparing your prep time to others' countdowns
  • Setting unrealistic study goals based on time remaining

🧘 Anxiety-Reduction Techniques

  • Breathing exercises: 4-7-8 technique (inhale 4, hold 7, exhale 8)
  • Visualization: Picture yourself succeeding on the exam
  • Positive affirmations: "I am prepared. I will do my best."
  • Physical exercise: 30 minutes daily reduces test anxiety
  • Adequate sleep: Sleep deprivation amplifies anxiety
  • Talk about it: Share concerns with friends, family, counselors
